Liver and Spleen Scan

Why is it performed?

In most patients with liver pathology ultrasound is normally performed.

A liver and spleen scan is sometimes requested by your physician in specific cases of liver diseases (e.g. liver cirrhosis, focal nodular hyperplasia etc.)

How does it work?

There is no special preparation.

A small amount of radiotracer is administered intravenously. After a waiting period of about 20 min images will be obtained using a gamma camera. These images normally take about 30 - 60 min.
